Hi! Welcome to our blog. We are Twin A (AKA Leslie) and Twin B (AKA Kate), 30-something twins living in the metropolitan VA/DC area. We are both married to very sweet and understanding guys (it cannot be easy to be married to twins like us!) and work full time while raising our kids (Leslie has 2, Kate has 1, for now anyway). Leslie is the cook in the family, Kate is the writer and decorator. We both actually work for the same non-profit organization in the IT world and our houses are 7 minutes apart. Yes, we timed it. We are dorks that way.
Essentially, we are those freaky twins you see on TV who are best friends, work together, share everything, etc. Yuck. We’d probably hate ourselves, too, if we met us. We don’t live together, but that’s mostly cause we don’t think our husbands would be too keen on the idea!
Some frequently asked questions that we have received about our site and being twins…
- What does CumberFest mean?
The site is named CumberFest after an annual birthday weekend that we hold with friends up at our family cabin near Cumberland, MD. - When one twin gets hurt, does the other feel the pain?
No, not really. We’re fraternal twins, but we do look a heck of a lot alike. If you see us, you know we are twins. Well, except Leslie is prettier. But still, we look a lot alike. We don’t really feel each other’s pain but we do finish each other’s sentences and say the same thing a lot. A lot a lot. Like scary often. Again, our poor husbands. - If someone were to hit you over the head with a brick, would you know which twin you were when you woke up?
We’re not even answering this one. Who would ask such a question?! I believe Leslie punched the guy who asked this question in the stomach. But we were young, he’s fine now, don’t worry. - So, are you guys like the Sweet Valley High Twins??
Um…yes. Except not as young. Leslie is Elizabeth and Kate is Jessica. For sure. We did dress up as them for Halloween in high school. Wish we could find those pictures. Well, maybe not. - Do you dress alike?
Not on purpose. But we’ll often pick each other up for work and find the other wearing an almost identical outfit. Thankfully no one at work is crass enough to bring it up when we walk through the halls together. Ever. Much. - Who is older?
Well, Leslie was born 2 minutes before Kate so she is technically older. But Kate has this cockamamy theory that she was conceived first. “FILO - First In, Last Out” or something like that. Leslie’s not buying it. She is still 2 minutes older and will continue to lord it over Kate’s head forever. - Everyone, including my dog, has a blog. Why add another one to the already-crowded Interwebs?
Well, unfortunately our Mom has a rare degenerative brain disease called Pick’s Disease. Many of the symptoms of Picks are similar to Alzheimer’s and Picks is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s. Our mom’s symptoms began almost 10 years ago in her late fifties. That’s pretty young to start losing your Mom. It makes us both very sad that while she is still alive, she’s not lucid enough to see us raise our own kids, to see how we are as Moms and to help us when we need some motherly advice.Sadly, there is a small chance that one or both of us may end up with this disease ourselves in 20 or 30 years. If that is the case, we’d like to be able to leave something for our kids. We tried scrapbooking but we just don’t have the time. Since we are both in IT, we’re online a LOT during the day and we figured this would be a good way to document our children’s lives. Hopefully we’ll be looking back on these entries with them in 40 years, but if we aren’t able to do so, at least they will know they were loved and that raising them was the most fun ever!

…”Well, except Leslie is prettier”..
Hard to tell which one wrote the About US page!
Hey ladies! EH told me about your blog so I did a search for it. Yea!
Yours looks much more interesting than mine, for sure. And you are BOTH pretty.
Love from Jenn (now you like me a LOT, admit it).
